Tons of Shredded Paper Will Help Protect Water Source for Panama City Beach

Teammates at SunTrust Bank’s Atlanta, Richmond and Orlando’s offices brought in paper to shred and recycle securely during its annual Teammate Shred Day in celebration of Earth Day. Across these locations, teammates shredded 6,650 pounds of paper.

To further the company’s efforts around Earth Day, the SunTrust Foundation partnered with the Arbor Day Foundation and their Time for Trees initiative, pledging to plant five trees for every pound of paper shredded. This equates to 33,250 trees.

The majority of these trees will be planted on behalf of SunTrust Bank in Florida as part of the Econfina Creek watershed restoration project. The Econfina Creek is the primary drinking water source for Panama City Beach, and the longleaf pines that will be planted will help protect the level of surface water. Over the next 40 years, these trees will reduce air pollution by 811 tons and will sequester over 7,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide.

SunTrust Bank will also engage its teammates to sign up for volunteer opportunities to plant trees in several locations across its markets.
