SPECIAL UPDATE FROM MAYOR FOLEY REGARDING CORONAVIRUS LITIGATION

Dear Friends & Colleagues,
The last 48 hours were surreal. It’s right out of a movie. Some even believed it was a hoax at first. Sadly it’s not. Who would believe that a federal agency could decide to transfer persons infected with the contagious CoronaVirus into Costa Mesa, right in the heart of our residential densely populated community?
Worse, we may not have known in time but for our excellent emergency services administrator and our legislative partners including Congressman Harley Rouda and Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris. The federal and state agencies began preparing to house patients fairly secretly and without any meaningful consultation with our city or county teams.
Fortunately, our council and city team responded unanimously to quickly seek an injunction in Federal Court to halt the transfer. A hearing regarding our request takes place on Monday at 2pm in Federal Court in Santa Ana.
Today we held a press conference to update the community on our plans, assure you that we will fight with all of our might to protect the safety and security of Costa Mesa, and the Orange County region at large. We are grateful that our community, state and federal legislative partners joined us in unity.
You can view the press conference HERE.
We will keep you posted on our efforts.
Best wishes,
Mayor Katrina Foley
