What’s in the Heroes Act for you

Last night, the House of Representatives passed the bipartisan Heroes Act. This legislation provides much-needed funding for families; essential workers; small businesses; cities, counties, and states; and testing and treatment.

Here’s what this means for you:

  • Frontline workers: Provides hazard pay and workplace protections to workers on the frontlines of this pandemic;
  • Small Businesses: More funding to EIDL, and expands PPP to those that need it, including local chambers of commerce and other non-profits;
  • Testing: Additional funding for coronavirus testing and treatment;
  • Lowers Taxes: Lifts the SALT cap and provides tax relief for 39th District families, a top priority of mine since my first day in Congress;
  • Cities, Counties, and States: Direct, flexible funding to help our state and local governments maintain crucial programs, public safety, and keep city frontline workers employed
  • Education: Funding to support local school districts and higher education;
  • Rent Relief: Funding to assist renters and homeowners for their monthly rent, mortgage, and utility payments;
  • Support Veterans: Necessary support for veterans by providing flexibility for the VA to care for homeless veterans, allowing veterans without a disability but with a financial hardship to qualify for enrollment in the VA health system;
  • Support for Healthcare and Research: Funding for Community Health Centers, hospitals, and healthcare providers;
  • Strategic National Stockpile and Domestic Manufacturing: Strengthens the Strategic National Stockpile and supports the U.S. domestic manufacturing base for critical medical supplies and drugs;
  • More Direct Payments with Program Improvements: Establishes a second round of more substantial economic impact payments of $1200 per family member and ensures all Americans receive equal relief.

I also want to thank everyone who has joined me for my “Cisneros In Your City” Town Hall series. I’ve held five over the past week, and I’m hosting the next seven cities in the following week: Hacienda Heights, Brea, Diamond Bar, La Habra, Rowland Heights, Chino Hills, and Buena Park.

During my town halls, many of you have asked for several resources. Here are a few I want to share with you:

  • Testing: California Public Health has released an interactive website where you can locate COVID-19 testing sites closest to you. Some testing sites require a physician’s referral or for you to make an appointment.
  • Home-delivered meals for older adults: Older adults (aged 60+) who live at home and find cooking difficult may be able to receive prepared meals delivered to their home, regardless of income level. Seniors who used to visit community meal sites can have those meals home-delivered instead. Find a meal provider in your area or call 1-800-510-2020.
  • Volunteering: If you want to help your community and find volunteer opportunities, click here.

Please continue to stay safe, practice social distancing, wear a face mask, and practice safe hygiene. Your safety and health are my top priority.

As always, if you have any questions or need more information, you can visit my website here or call my office.

I am humbled to serve you in Congress.

Take care,
