Monks Busy Reaping in Shaolin Chan Cultivation Farm

On the morning of June 15, 2017, over 100 monks were busy reaping the wheat in Shaolin Chan Cultivation Farm. Reaping hooks in hand, a number of lay Buddhists and disciples overseas stood in a queue that headed for Shaolin wheat field. During intervals, Shaolin monks showed brilliant Shaolin Boxing in high spirits.

 

According to Master Yanzi who is in charge of the farm, the farm covers an area of more than 1,600 mu of land on which 120 mu of wheat, over 20 mu of vegetables and about 40 mu of fruit trees grow. Adhering to the tradition of regarding both agriculture and Chan cultivation as equally important, the farm symbolizes self-supporting concept. Spices, Chinese herbal medicine and sightseeing plants of various types can be seen everywhere in the farm. Master Yanzi also revealed that the Chan farm is expected to connect with global markets, with the hope that concepts and patterns can be delivered abroad to better spread Chinese traditional culture.
