Bomb threat at Wal-Mart in Torrance prompts evacuation

Customers and employees at a Walmart store in Torrance were forced to evacuate Wednesday following a telephoned bomb threat that proved to be unfounded, police said.

Officers responded to the store on Hawthorne Boulevard between Carson Street and Sepulveda Boulevard shortly after noon, Torrance police Sgt. Ronald Harris said.

Police searched the building and found everything safe and secure, Harris said.

In recent months, police across the country have investigated bomb threats at Walmarts, including stores in Long Beach and La Habra.
