Taiwan says Premier Lin has offered resignation

Taipei, Sept. 4 (CNA) Premier Lin Chuan (林全) has tendered his resignation, Cabinet spokesman Hsu Kuo-yung (徐國勇) confirmed Monday.

Lin submitted his resignation to President Tsai Ing-ing (蔡英文) in the wake of a national security meeting convened by Tsai on Sunday, Hsu said.

On the question of whether Tsai would accept the premier’s resignation, Hsu said the Presidential Office was scheduled to hold a press conference later in the day to speak about the latest development.

Meanwhile in the southern Taiwan city of Tainan, Mayor Lai Ching-te (賴清德) declined to comment on reports that he had been selected to succeed Lin.
