The Orange Club (TOC) Announced supporting Bob Huff to take Ed Royce seat

Irvine, California, January 9, 2018 – Long-time supporter of Asian-American communities Rep. Ed Royce (CD39), announced yesterday that he would not to seek re-election in the upcoming 2018 mid-term election. Mr. Francis Liu, the President of the Club, said:

“Rep. Royce has been a strong advocate for equal education right for Asian American students. He provided timely congressional support to the two administrative complaints against Harvard in 2015 and Yale/Brown/Dartmouth in 2016 for their discriminative admissions practice against Asian American students. The two complaints were filed by Asian American Coalition for Education (AACE), of which TOC is a signatory member organization. Representing the volunteers of TOC and as a voter in CD39, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Rep. Royce very much for his service to our country and for his support to our communities. We at TOC sincerely wish him the very best in his future endeavors personally and professionally.”

As CD39 seat becomes open, we believe former California Senator Bob Huff would be the best candidate to succeed Rep. Ed Royce. Senator Huff not only has a stellar resume of public service at both local and state levels, but also has been a dedicated supporter of Asian American communities throughout the years. Mr. George Li, board member of the Club, said,

“Mr. Huff was the first one in the State Senate that spoke against SCA5, a state constitutional amendment that intends to undo Prop 209. He also authored Senate Joint Resolution 23 requesting U.S. Congress to adopt resolutions of apology to Chinese Americans for enactment of the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882. Mr. Huff and his wife Mei Mei Huff have been at almost every forefront of our pursuit for equal rights and opportunities in the U.S. Mr. Huff would receive tremendous support from Chinese American communities throughout California and across the country. We support Mr. Bob Huff for Congress!”

Working with sister organizations, the Orange Club has already initiated a campaign to call for support for Bob Huff for Congress among Asian American communities across the country.
