Energetic Chinese Cultures Rocks UCLA campus

For many UCLA village members, February 19th UCLA-CSSA Spring Festival Gala (Chinese Culture Night) will be kept in memory lasting for long time. About 300 talented student performers and staff presented  an exotic, orient style, but successfully mixed with modern western factors Gala with 13 shows to about 1700 audience in UCLA’s iconic Royce Hall.

UCLACSSA annual Spring Festival Gala is one of the biggest and most prominent student-organized Chinese New Year celebration in southern California. This year’s Gala directed by Dechen Dolkar.

The Chinese Culture Night started with opening Song of “PaoHan Chuan” a Chinese traditional music ensemble originated from Shanxi Province, creating the imagery of people celebrating Chinese New Year using drum and gong.  With the very Chinese style stage background and red costumes, playing different Chinese folk musical instruments,  twenty four performers rocked  the whole Royce Hall with joy and exciting.

The event consists of a variety of performances, ranging from traditional orchestral to acappella to other creative performances. The 2018 Gala comprise of 13 distinct performances, with the aim to create a festive atmosphere that is reminiscent of home for local Chinese people and to spread the Chinese culture.

Education consul Haiying Chai and Consul Tao Zhu from China Consulate General in Los Angeles expressed best Chinese new year’s wish to the audience.

UCLACSSA president Jubing Ge said in her speech, “with more than 4000 Chinese students and scholars in UCLA,  as international students across different with global perspectives, we could and should add culture to our beautiful campus. The three key words of today’s gala are diversity, fusion and innovation.

UCLA is such a wonderful place where diversity is a core value. It is our pursuit to spread Chinese culture and facilitate the culture interaction between the U.S. and China.”
