Congressman Ted Lieu meets with Southern California Chinese communities
March 25, 2018 evening, congressman Ted Lieu met his Chinese American friends in Irvine with his parents. About 100 local Chinese communities leaders spent a wonderful evening with him.
In the meeting he addressed 5 issues to local Chinese communities leaders: North Korea, Gun Control, Take back the House, Trade war with China, DACA.
On North Korea issue, he said, , I am particularly concerned that the president is now going to put in John Bolton as the security advisor. He wrote an opinion piece on Wall Street Journal earlier in the year, where he argued for first strike on North Korea. And the problem is, when I read his opinion piece, he was analogizing this to how Israel was strike using reactors, in Iran, and other places. It occurred to me that he doesn’t understand the military situation on the ground in North Korea. You can’t just launch airstrike on North Korea and get rid of the nuclear weapons.
When Ted talked about gun, he said, “many of you saw these amazing March for Our Lives rallies across America. The reporting is that the one in Washington, D.C. was twice the size of Trump’s inauguration. But, right now, we are unable to get any gun measures passed through Congress, because Republic controlled Congress won’t even let us have a vote. I am a co-author, of the ban on the ban of assault weapons. I’m a co-author of universal background checks. Because of these things, I have an F-rating from the NRA. In November, all the voters across America get to vote again. if We take the house again, we can work more on gun control bills. “
Ted Lieu said, “in order to take back control of Congress, we have to flip 23 seats nationwide after we’ve won the seat in Pennsylvania. The election in Pennsylvania was not an aberration. It was not unusual, if you look at all the elections we’ve had since Trump in office, Democrats have been winning it. We did something never in history of America ever happened. If you see that wave, this blue wave that is building and if that sustains itself, and it happens in November, we will take back the house.”
Ray Hing and his wife, long-time friends of Ted’s parents, drove 7 hours down from San Jose for supporting Ted, he said, I was very impressed with Ted’s in-depth knowledge on all subjects. It was worth the drive and support for Ted. I felt I got a booster shot by hearing what he said and the way he said them without a prepared night! He did spoke little about trade war against China. He said China is smart. It targeted the Pork, soybean, and lots of agricultural products. These products and produce came from red state. The farmers will have lots of pains as China can get those products from other countries (Australia, New Zealand, Argentina, Brazil and etc). These are the states trump carried heavily.
