LA County START program

At LA county supervisor board meeting this week, Supervisor Janice Hahn and Supervisor Kathryn Barger passed a motion to strengthen and expand School Threat Assessment Response Teams (START). In partnership with law enforcement and schools, the START program works to prevent shootings and violence by responding to warning signs and cries for help. Since our initial motion passed in February, our START team has already received 133 calls about possible threats. Currently, the program is comprised of only 10 staff members, so it is time we give START the resources the children in Los Angeles County deserve.

Because of our diligent parents, teachers, and students, we can connect our youth to the mental health help they need so they do not become a danger to themselves or those around them. This vital program is going to make all the difference in our effort to keep our schools safe.
