Los Angeles County Initiatives Pathway Home Operation in East Los Angeles to Assist Residents Transition From Recreational Vehicles to Secure Housing
32 people now safely housed and supported on a path to permanent housing.
East Los Angeles, CA – Under the direction of Los Angeles County Chair Pro Tem Hilda L. Solis, the Los Angeles County Homeless Initiative launched a new Pathway Home operation in East Los Angeles this week. The operation successfully transitioned 32 individuals, who had been living in recreational vehicles (RVs) and encampments in East Los Angeles, into interim housing. There, residents will receive essential supportive services to help them move from temporary shelter to permanent housing solutions.
The operation was carried out through close collaboration between the Los Angeles County Homeless Initiative, Chair Pro Tem Solis’ office, and key service providers. The initiative was carefully planned over several weeks and did not divert resources from ongoing wildfire response efforts.
“At a time when the County has directed significant resources to assist those affected by wildfires, our commitment to addressing homelessness remains steadfast,” said Chair Pro Tem Solis. “The East Los Angeles Pathway Home operation focused on individuals living in unsafe, inoperable RVs, and encampments providing them not just with temporary shelter, but with the opportunity to regain stability and self-sufficiency. By offering safe, supportive housing and vital services, we are helping people take the crucial steps toward permanent housing and a brighter future, with dignity and respect every step of the way.”
At the interim housing site, residents will receive a comprehensive array of services, including housing-focused case management, life skills development, meal delivery, harm reduction counseling, and housing vouchers. These services are crucial to ensuring participants remain stably housed and successfully transition into permanent homes within six months or sooner.
Key partners in the East Los Angeles operation included the Los Angeles County Departments of Mental Health, Health Services, Public Health, Animal Care and Control, and Public Works, as well as the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Other vital collaborators in the operation included the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA), nonprofit service provider PATH, and Helpline Youth Counseling. These organizations provided the on-the-ground support and engagement necessary for successfully transitioning residents into interim housing. Helpline Youth Counseling will provide services onsite to the residents.
Their combined efforts ensured the safe and humane relocation of residents, with a focus on treating all individuals with dignity and respect throughout the process.
