Governor Newsom and Acting Governor Kounalakis issue statements, lower flags, and announce the posthumous induction of John Burton into the California Hall of Fame

SACRAMENTO – Governor Gavin Newsom and First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom today announced that John Burton will be posthumously inducted into the California Hall of Fame. Flags will be flown at half-staff in his honor, and Governor Newsom and Acting Governor Eleni Kounalakis issued statements mourning the passing of Burton — the former Chair of the California Democratic Party, U.S. Congressman, State Assemblymember, and President pro Tempore of the California State Senate.

Burton will be part of the 19th Class of the California Hall of Fame. He will be formally inducted during a ceremony at the California Museum in Sacramento in December, celebrating his contributions to civic life. Launched in 2006, the California Hall of Fame recognizes history-making Californians who embody the state’s spirit of innovation and have changed the state, the nation, and the world. Inductees are selected annually by the Governor and First Partner.

In honor of Burton, flags at the State Capitol and Capitol Annex Swing Space will be flown at half-staff.
