Solis Reflects on the 24th Anniversary of September 11

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Los Angeles County Chair Pro Tem and First District Supervisor Hilda L. Solis issued the following statement on the 24th anniversary of the September 11 attacks:

“Today, on the 24th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, we remember a day that left a lasting mark on our nation.

As a member of Congress in 2001, I vividly recall the confusion and fear of that morning. I was in my office watching the news when security rushed in and told us to evacuate immediately. Outside, I saw the Pentagon burning. The sky was thick with smoke, and the air carried a smell I will never forget.

The attacks that day shook the very foundation of our country. Thousands of lives were lost. But in the midst of the tragedy, we witnessed extraordinary bravery, compassion, and unity. First responders, service members, and everyday Americans came together in ways that showed the strength of our shared values and our collective resolve.

Each year, this anniversary reminds us not only of what we lost, but also of what we must continue to protect. It is a time to honor the memory of those who died by renewing our commitment to unity, service, and hope.

We will never forget the pain and grief of that day. But we will also never forget the courage and strength that followed. May we carry that spirit forward, today and always.”
