Solis Pays Tribute to Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi’s Legacy of Leadership
LOS ANGELES, Calif. Nov. 6, 2025 — Los Angeles County Chair Pro Tem and First District Supervisor Hilda L. Solis issued the following statement after Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi announced that she will not seek reelection to Congress:
“I extend my deepest gratitude to Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi for her decades of service and historic leadership in Congress. She shattered glass ceilings, redefined what is possible for women and people of color in government, and paved the way for countless public servants like myself.
Speaker Pelosi’s legacy is firmly rooted in her tireless fight for working families and health care access. Under her leadership, Congress passed landmark legislation including the Affordable Care Act, the Dodd-Frank Act, the American Rescue Plan, and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, improving the lives of millions across this nation.
In 2019, during the Trump administration, she led with resolve through what was then the longest government shutdown in U.S. history and helped bring it to an end, ensuring that the needs of the American people were put first.
She has been a personal mentor and steadfast supporter throughout my career, from my time in Congress to when I became the first Latina to serve in a presidential cabinet under President Obama. Her courage, grace, and commitment to justice have left an indelible mark on our nation and on my life.
I will always call her my Speaker.”
