By Zhong Sheng, People<\/span><\/span>\u2019<\/span><\/span>s Daily<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n \n Chinese President Xi Jinping’s address<\/span><\/span> at the <\/span><\/span>just-concluded <\/span><\/span>F<\/span><\/span>ourth Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) has drawn a clear roadmap for a bright future of Northeast Asia<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n \n Xi summarized the fruits of China\u2019s support for and participation in the cooperation with Russia\u2019s Far East region and <\/span><\/span>put forward<\/span><\/span> four proposals <\/span><\/span>on<\/span><\/span>Northeast Asian <\/span><\/span>cooperation<\/span><\/span>, in the speech delivered to the EEF on <\/span><\/span>Wednesday<\/span><\/span>, in Vladivostok, Russia.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n \n He said Northeast Asia should build up mutual trust to safeguard regional peace and tranquility; deepen cooperation to achieve mutually-beneficial and win-win outcomes; learn from each other to consolidate their traditional friendship; and<\/span><\/span> realize integrated and coordinated development<\/span><\/span> from a long-<\/span><\/span>term perspective<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n \n B<\/span><\/span>ased on the current situation of Northeast Asia, <\/span><\/span>t<\/span><\/span>he proposals<\/span><\/span> responded to the development<\/span><\/span>demands<\/span><\/span> of all<\/span><\/span> regional<\/span><\/span> countries and were widely echoed by <\/span><\/span>representatives attending the meeting.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n \n The international situation is now undergoing profound and complicated changes with mounting power politics, unilateralism and protectionism. <\/span><\/span>But the <\/span><\/span>overall situation in Northeast Asia remains stable and is improving, despite of complicated global political and economic <\/span><\/span>landscape.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n \n Against this backdrop, countries in Northeast Asia must seize this rare historical opportunity to further tap the full potential of cooperation so as to <\/span><\/span>join<\/span><\/span>efforts to promote peace, stability, and prosperity<\/span><\/span> in the region.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n \n The Northeast Asia has great development potential. <\/span><\/span>S<\/span><\/span>ix Northeast Asian countries account for 23 percent of the global population, and their GDP make up 19 percent of global economy.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n \n Besides, the region is endowed with rich energy resources and abundant supplies of financial and human resources, and owns<\/span><\/span> the<\/span><\/span> world\u2019s leading scientific and technological research and development capabilities. The <\/span><\/span>regional <\/span><\/span>economies are highly complementary<\/span><\/span> for <\/span><\/span>each having respective strengths and distinctive features<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n \n In 2017, trade between China and Russia\u2019s Far Eastern <\/span><\/span>f<\/span><\/span>ederal <\/span><\/span>d<\/span><\/span>istrict exceeded $7.7 billion.
