It was the strongest September in the Port\u2019s 111-year history.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVolumes remain strong with shippers importing holiday season inventories and manufacturers bringing supplies and materials in advance of additional cost impacts from tariffs,\u201d said Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Gene Seroka. \u201cOur robust numbers are a reflection of the confidence cargo owners have in our efficiency, regional warehousing options, and speed-to-market capabilities. As we enter the final quarter of 2018, we continue to partner with stakeholders on an array of projects to enhance our infrastructure and operations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>September 2018 imports increased 6.6 percent to 414,281 TEUs compared to the previous year. Exports increased 14.5 percent to 147,000 TEUs, while empty containers fell 2.7 percent to 239,983 TEUs. Combined, September overall volumes were 801,264 TEUs.<\/p>\n<p>Nine months into 2018, overall volumes have decreased 1.75 percent to 6.8 million TEUs compared to 2017 when the Port set an all-time cargo record.<\/p>\n<p>The Port of Los Angeles is America\u2019s premier port and has a strong commitment to developing innovatively strategic and sustainable operations that benefit Southern California\u2019s economy and quality of life.
