{"id":12545,"date":"2018-12-02T01:08:19","date_gmt":"2018-12-02T09:08:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=12545"},"modified":"2018-12-02T10:10:08","modified_gmt":"2018-12-02T18:10:08","slug":"us-consulate-in-mexico-attacked-with-grenade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=12545","title":{"rendered":"US consulate in Mexico attacked with grenade"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mexican authorities are investigating an apparent grenade attack on the U.S. consulate in the city of Guadalajara, officials said Saturday, underscoring the security challenges facing Mexico\u2019s new president.<\/p>\n<p>The attack took place early Saturday morning, local media reported, ahead of the swearing in of President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador later in the day.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.wenxuecity.com\/data\/news\/201812\/02\/5e7f469010b4f429b31fe9579a418b76.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>No one was killed or injured in the attack and Mexican authorities are investigating the matter, according to a U.S. official in Mexico.<\/p>\n<p>Jalisco state prosecutors wrote on their Twitter account that federal authorities had taken over the investigation of the incident.<\/p>\n<p>The state is the home base of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, which is considered one of the most powerful gangs in Mexico by U.S. and Mexican authorities.<\/p>\n<p>The gang\u2019s leader, Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, or \u201cEl Mencho\u201d is on the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration\u2019s most wanted list.<\/p>\n<p>Violence has surged in Jalisco and across Mexico, which is seeing record levels of killings.
