The world largest telecom quipment manufacturer company Huawei Chief Financial Officer Wanzhou Meng was arrested in Vancouver in connection with potential violations on suspicion she violated U.S. trade sanctions against Iran, Canada\u2019s Department of Justice said.<\/p>\n
Meng, the company\u2019s deputy chairwoman, was arrested on December 1; a bail hearing has already been set for Friday. Meng is the daughter of Huawei founder\u00a0Ren Zhengfei\u00a0<\/a>. She joined Huawei in 1993.<\/p>\n In a statement, department confirmed Meng had been arrested and was facing extradition.<\/p>\n \u201cAs there is a publication ban in effect, we cannot provide any further detail at this time. The ban was sought by Ms. Meng,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n Tensions between U.S. authorities and\u00a0Huawei\u00a0<\/a>have been high since 2016 and have taken a turn for the worse as the U.S.-China trade war has heated up. Citing national security concerns, President Donald Trump\u00a0in August\u00a0signed a bill<\/a>\u00a0that would ban government agencies from using products and services from Huawei and its Chinese competitor ZTE.
