{"id":19014,"date":"2019-08-26T21:27:16","date_gmt":"2019-08-27T04:27:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=19014"},"modified":"2019-08-26T21:29:08","modified_gmt":"2019-08-27T04:29:08","slug":"us-france-reach-deal-on-tech-tax","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=19014","title":{"rendered":"US, France reach deal on tech tax"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>French and American negotiators have reached an agreement on France&#8217;s digital tax law.<\/p>\n<p>A source close to the negotiations\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/click1.email.thehill.com\/jtrfczshnbbwpzpbwtvnnwffnswkbsbddmnhzqkqsjvqj_vyjfhhpvpnfhggmhkjmh.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/click1.email.thehill.com\/jtrfczshnbbwpzpbwtvnnwffnswkbsbddmnhzqkqsjvqj_vyjfhhpvpnfhggmhkjmh.html&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1566957451651000&amp;usg=AFQjCNERjm0wVWcfT-qU5JPnNgJ18o55Dw\">told Reuters<\/a>\u00a0that the deal made between French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire, U.S. Treasury Secretary\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/click1.email.thehill.com\/yfqcypmrvssnwpwsnfkvvnccvmntsmszzgvrpbtbmqkbf_vyjfhhpvpnfhggmhkjmh.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/click1.email.thehill.com\/yfqcypmrvssnwpwsnfkvvnccvmntsmszzgvrpbtbmqkbf_vyjfhhpvpnfhggmhkjmh.html&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1566957451651000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHqQS-1WcBkCbpPEfhjHpdw-YQyzA\">Steven Mnuchin<\/a>\u00a0and White House economic adviser\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/click1.email.thehill.com\/uggmvzybchhsjzjhsgnccsmmcyskhyhddfcbzpkpywnpn_vyjfhhpvpnfhggmhkjmh.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/click1.email.thehill.com\/uggmvzybchhsjzjhsgnccsmmcyskhyhddfcbzpkpywnpn_vyjfhhpvpnfhggmhkjmh.html&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1566957451651000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEN6Sqy-JGn4QofSmOS8YDqIaN9Cw\">Larry Kudlow<\/a>\u00a0would have France repay companies for the national tax once the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development establishes an international system for digital taxes.<\/p>\n<p>The draft agreement was reportedly given to President Trump and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron during the Group of Seven summit Monday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Trump&#8217;s adviser is OK with the proposal,&#8221; the source told Reuters. &#8220;That would be the mechanism at this stage, that&#8217;s the joint proposal.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The new French law places a 3 percent tax on yearly revenues of technology companies that make at least 750 million euros annually and provide services to users in France, affecting companies such as Apple, Google, Facebook and Amazon.<\/p>\n<p>Those companies have\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/click1.email.thehill.com\/mtnsmzwgpccljzjcltnpplsspwlvcwckkdpgzbvbwynbd_vyjfhhpvpnfhggmhkjmh.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/click1.email.thehill.com\/mtnsmzwgpccljzjcltnpplsspwlvcwckkdpgzbvbwynbd_vyjfhhpvpnfhggmhkjmh.html&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1566957451651000&amp;usg=AFQjCNH9f2BHWNZkul7-XUxjaN8otqKsfA\">said<\/a>\u00a0the tax unfairly affects U.S. businesses and could harm their operations.<\/p>\n<p>French President Emmanuel Macron praised the deal his country reached with the U.S. on France&#8217;s digital tax as a &#8220;very good agreement.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The idea is that we need to find a joint agreement in order to address joint international problems,&#8221; Macron said at a joint press conference with President Trump following the Group of Seven. &#8220;And the situation right now is very negative, and the international tax system definitely needs to be modernized, and I think we will work together in a spirit of cooperation on this.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Macron also took to Twitter to tout the agreement after the press conference.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Some digital players pay very little tax.
