{"id":20990,"date":"2020-01-10T16:28:27","date_gmt":"2020-01-11T00:28:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=20990"},"modified":"2020-01-10T16:28:27","modified_gmt":"2020-01-11T00:28:27","slug":"alphabets-legal-chief-leaves-company-amid-scrutiny","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=20990","title":{"rendered":"Alphabet&#8217;s legal chief leaves company amid scrutiny"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The top lawyer at Alphabet, Google&#8217;s parent company, is retiring amid scrutiny of his relationships with women and a larger internal reckoning at Google over alleged workplace misconduct.<\/p>\n<p>David Drummond, who has played a central role in an ongoing investigation into workplace sexual misconduct at Alphabet, will leave the company by the end of this month, according to an Alphabet\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/click1.email.thehill.com\/iydzptgkcyywrtrywbmccwzzcgwqygyffdcktnqnznbnd_phchmmjqjbhmcdlvdclf.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/click1.email.thehill.com\/iydzptgkcyywrtrywbmccwzzcgwqygyffdcktnqnznbnd_phchmmjqjbhmcdlvdclf.html&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1578785752978000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFQ5RfJC9mpeUNGaJpsH7nOjJxwLg\">securities filing<\/a>. A Google spokesperson confirmed that Drummond has informed the company he will be leaving effective Jan. 31.<\/p>\n<p>Last summer, Drummond acknowledged he had an affair with a former co-worker but denied many of her public allegations, chalking up her grievances to a &#8220;difficult breakup 10 years ago.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The woman, Jennifer Blakely, published an\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/click1.email.thehill.com\/rctwyhjflccpshscpkgllpwwljpbcjcqqvlfhtbtwtktt_phchmmjqjbhmcdlvdclf.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/click1.email.thehill.com\/rctwyhjflccpshscpkgllpwwljpbcjcqqvlfhtbtwtktt_phchmmjqjbhmcdlvdclf.html&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1578785752978000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEb1UM7Y_iP-P5a5yLMbN7JtSBC0Q\">extensive account<\/a>\u00a0of their relationship on Medium in August, alleging she and Drummond had an affair when she worked for him at Google.
