{"id":21869,"date":"2020-02-11T19:55:18","date_gmt":"2020-02-12T03:55:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=21869"},"modified":"2020-02-11T20:57:16","modified_gmt":"2020-02-12T04:57:16","slug":"andrew-yang-drops-out-of-presidential-race","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=21869","title":{"rendered":"Andrew Yang drops out of presidential race"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"endmarkEnabled\">Andrew Yang, a New York businessman whose unusual presidential campaign rose to prominence with a plan to give Americans $1,000 a month, is dropping out of the Democratic race.<\/p>\n<p class=\"endmarkEnabled\">Initially seen as a long-shot candidate, Yang used a savvy social media strategy to garner legions of devoted followers who referred to themselves as the &#8220;Yang Gang.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div id=\"taboolaReadMoreBelow\"><\/div>\n<p class=\"endmarkEnabled\">Addressing supporters in New Hampshire on Tuesday night, Yang said: &#8220;While there is great work left to be done, you know I am the math guy, and it is clear tonight from the numbers that we are not going to win this race. I am not someone who wants to accept donations and support in a race that we will not win. And so tonight I am announcing I am suspending my campaign for president.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"endmarkEnabled\">Yang, 45,\u00a0<a class=\" vilynx_listened\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2020-election\/andrew-yang-he-s-running-free-money-all-so-much-n982981\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">launched his bid<\/a>\u00a0for the presidency in late 2017.<\/p>\n<p class=\"endmarkEnabled\">A lawyer turned entrepreneur and author of a book called &#8220;The War on Normal People,&#8221; Yang appealed to voters by warning of the ills of technology\u2014 including automation and artificial intelligence. Yang&#8217;s plan for a universal basic income\u2014 the $1,000 a month check that he dubbed the &#8220;Freedom Dividend&#8221;\u2014 served as a bedrock for his larger vision for fixing a society deeply sickened by capitalism.<\/p>\n<p class=\"endmarkEnabled\">&#8220;Democrats still have not asked themselves the hard questions as to how Donald Trump won in 2016,&#8221;\u00a0<a class=\" vilynx_listened\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/dateline\/video\/yang-trump-is-a-symptom-democrats-need-to-cure-the-underlying-disease-75825221741\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Yang said in December<\/a>. The party is acting like &#8220;Trump is the cause of all our problems.
