Our team has been working around the clock since Thursday night, managing and preventing a last minute decision by our federal and state governments to make\u00a0Costa Mesa & Orange County the epicenter for quarantine and isolation of Coronavirus patients in the United States.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
It\u2019s been a whirlwind with information evolving by the hour.\u00a0Our Costa Mesa City team along with our legislative, local and community partners dropped everything to help and we are all grateful.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
COURT UPDATE:\u00a0On Friday, after our team became frustrated by the inadequate information and failure to follow established protocols and then received written confirmation that\u00a0the government was preparing to transfer 40-50 patients to Fairview Development Center, we filed for an injunction to halt any transfer.\u00a0The court temporarily granted our relief and requested briefings.\u00a0We are set to go back to court for a hearing on Monday.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
In their briefings,\u00a0the government failed to show any compliance with established emergency response protocols.\u00a0They skipped all steps to properly evaluate and coordinate with local governments.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
In the hearing,\u00a0the Judge grilled the lawyers for both state and federal agencies to determine what scientific, medical, safety and security criteria was evaluated to select\u00a0Fairview\u00a0Development Center.\u00a0Their response was misdirection, blaming, lack of knowledge, and, frankly,\u00a0disrespect for local government.<\/div>\n

THE GOOD NEWS –\u00a0The Judge stated she believed ours and the county public health officials questions were appropriate\u00a0and directed the government to answer.\u00a0She also directed them to meet with local representatives, including the county, this week.<\/div>\n

We return to court on Monday to continue fighting to protect local communities and demand that our federal and state governments follow established protocols and procedures for managing a contagion crisis.\u00a0The established process is what\u2019s best for quality safe patient care and for the protection of the public\u2019s health given the world crisis regarding the CoronaVirus.<\/div>\n

We are a compassionate community\u00a0but first and foremost, my top priority is to protect the health and safety of our community’s families.\u00a0This is a worldwide health crisis full of many questions to be answered.\u00a0It is not\u00a0rational\u00a0or responsible to locate a quarantine isolation site in the center of the second most populated county, next to dense residential and parks, and a mile from schools, colleges, and the civic center, and in a county with a major international center for tourism with beaches, parks, harbors, major amusement parks, shopping.<\/div>\n
