The U.S. Census is right around the corner. And every person in our community, and communities across the country, need to be counted.<\/p>\n

But Why Does It Matter?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mandated by our Constitution, the government conducts a census every 10 years to count all residents living in the United States.\u00a0Every. Single. Person. Counts.<\/em>\u00a0Your participation in the census matters because it informs how billions of dollars are allocated to hospitals, schools, affordable housing, and fire and police stations.\u00a0For every person we miss, our communities will lose $2,000 in federal funding.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Also affected by the census are hundreds of critical services and programs that make a difference in our lives every day, including Firefighter Grants, Head Start, Special Education Grants, Highway Planning and Construction, and Small Business Development Centers.<\/p>\n

A Fair and Accurate Count<\/strong><\/p>\n

With so much riding on the census, it\u2019s critical that we have\u00a0a fair and accurate count<\/em>. For the 39th District and for diverse districts across the country, it\u2019s especially important for us to reach out to communities that are historically undercounted in the census, like the Hispanic, Asian American and Pacific Islander, and Black communities. It\u2019s why the U.S. Census Bureau conducts the count, offers support, and provides information in different languages.<\/p>\n

We have to make sure that we do this right, because an inaccurate count can have detrimental consequences for families, students, business owners, and first responders for the next decade.<\/p>\n
