{"id":24120,"date":"2020-04-28T16:00:40","date_gmt":"2020-04-28T23:00:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=24120"},"modified":"2020-04-28T16:00:40","modified_gmt":"2020-04-28T23:00:40","slug":"statement-by-supervisor-mark-ridley-thomas-on-the-los-angeles-county-sheriffs-department-budget","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=24120","title":{"rendered":"Statement by Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas on the Los Angeles County Sheriff\u2019s Department Budget"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"justify\">\u201cThe Board of Supervisors and Chief Executive Office recognize the critical nature of the public safety services the Sheriff\u2019s Department provides to our communities, and their important role as first responders even before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">\u201cBy transferring $82.7 million to the Sheriff\u2019s Department, today\u2019s board motion provides adequate funding that was validated by the Chief Executive Office as sufficient to support public safety operations without interruption, as well as COVID-19 emergency measures.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">\u201cThe County is experiencing a significant decline in its revenue base, so the work that the Board initiated well before the pandemic to address the growing Sheriff\u2019s Department deficit must be accelerated.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">\u201cWe must hold the Sheriff\u2019s Department and all County departments accountable for staying within their budget.
