{"id":24271,"date":"2020-04-30T10:25:04","date_gmt":"2020-04-30T17:25:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=24271"},"modified":"2020-04-30T16:26:08","modified_gmt":"2020-04-30T23:26:08","slug":"new-anti-china-bill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=24271","title":{"rendered":"NEW ANTI-CHINA BILL"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Republican Sens. <a href=\"http:\/\/click1.email.thehill.com\/lhhqsfzphmmrlflmrdjhhrqqhzrcmzmyynhpfwcqnnhhd_unwhnnwqwshnmmqmpgpw.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/click1.email.thehill.com\/lhhqsfzphmmrlflmrdjhhrqqhzrcmzmyynhpfwcqnnhhd_unwhnnwqwshnmmqmpgpw.html&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1588374534155000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFf_2Vt3fRJOoul6JtV87nxYsNoDg\">Ted Cruz<\/a>\u00a0(Texas) and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/click1.email.thehill.com\/iggzptgkcyywrtrywbmccwzzcgwqygyffdcktnqzddccm_unwhnnwqwshnmmqmpgpw.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/click1.email.thehill.com\/iggzptgkcyywrtrywbmccwzzcgwqygyffdcktnqzddccm_unwhnnwqwshnmmqmpgpw.html&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1588374534155000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGEztebVK-vSiZ6ij_dEPIBfhAmrA\">Josh Hawley<\/a>\u00a0(Mo.) announced their intention on Thursday to introduce a bill that would ban U.S. officials from using products from Chinese companies deemed national security threats, such as telecom groups Huawei and ZTE.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/click1.email.thehill.com\/nwqjgcwhkqqnbcbqntdkknjjkwnmqwqzzpkhcrmjppkkp_unwhnnwqwshnmmqmpgpw.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/click1.email.thehill.com\/nwqjgcwhkqqnbcbqntdkknjjkwnmqwqzzpkhcrmjppkkp_unwhnnwqwshnmmqmpgpw.html&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1588374534155000&amp;usg=AFQjCNE5Be3L1MI_7uGXlRlE7xFeHb6tzw\">Countering Chinese Attempts at Snooping Act\u00a0<\/a>would prohibit federal employees from conducting official business through technology from companies deemed by the State Department to be under the control of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).<\/p>\n<p>The bill would require the State Department to create a list of CCP-supported companies that could pose a threat, particularly those that could be conducting espionage.<\/p>\n<p>In announcing the legislation, the senators specifically pointed to concerns around use of platforms run by Huawei and ZTE, which produce 5G wireless equipment, and by Chinese media conglomerate Tencent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCompanies like Tencent and Huawei are espionage operations for the Chinese Communist party, masquerading as telecom companies for the 21st century,\u201d Cruz said in a statement. \u201cProhibiting the use of these platforms and stopping taxpayer dollars from being used to capitalize Chinese espionage infrastructure are common sense measures to protect American national security.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cruz noted that \u201cthese are just some of the measures we will have to take as the United States reevaluates its relationship with China and the CCP.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hawley was also critical of the Chinese groups, calling Tencent a \u201cglorified surveillance arm\u201d of the CCP.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Republican Sens.
