{"id":24407,"date":"2020-05-05T17:02:15","date_gmt":"2020-05-06T00:02:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=24407"},"modified":"2020-05-05T17:02:15","modified_gmt":"2020-05-06T00:02:15","slug":"airbnb-cuts-workforce","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=24407","title":{"rendered":"Airbnb cuts workforce"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Airbnb, the short-term rental app that has gained increasing popularity in recent years, is planning to lay off about 25 percent of its workforce as it experiences a dramatic drop in revenue amid the coronavirus outbreak.<\/p>\n<p>CEO and cofounder Brian Chesky announced the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/click1.email.thehill.com\/ahpsrvbzlmmncvcmnyhllnsslbngmbmwwplzvtgstmmkb_sjbbmmvrvtbmllsbpjsm.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/click1.email.thehill.com\/ahpsrvbzlmmncvcmnyhllnsslbngmbmwwplzvtgstmmkb_sjbbmmvrvtbmllsbpjsm.html&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1588806045998000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEzJ7KC0YnAjKwnLMFkbjelnSPxng\">move in a letter<\/a>\u00a0sent to employees and later shared on the company&#8217;s website. The layoffs will apply to nearly 1,900 of the company&#8217;s 7,500 workers, Chesky said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are collectively living through the most harrowing crisis of our lifetime, and as it began to unfold, global travel came to a standstill,&#8221; Chesky said. &#8220;Airbnb\u2019s business has been hit hard, with revenue this year forecasted to be less than half of what we earned in 2019.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Chesky noted that the company &#8220;raised $2 billion in capital and dramatically cut costs&#8221; after the outbreak began impacting its core business.
