Because of that work, our health data tells us that California can enter the next stage of this pandemic and gradually begin to restart portions of our economy,\u201d said Governor Newsom. \u201cIt\u2019s critical that businesses and employers understand how they can reduce the risk of transmission and better protect their workers and customers. COVID-19 will be present in our communities until there is a vaccine or therapeutic, and it will be up to all of us to change our behavior and eliminate opportunities for the disease to spread.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Resilience Roadmap<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Californians are flattening the curve as part of the stay at home order issued on March 19, 2020. These efforts have allowed the state to move forward on the roadmap for modifying the statewide order. The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/cert1.mail-west.com\/c7rmhUyuH\/myuzjanm\/hUgt\/7e8jlrut71\/1bisx\/3hUgis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/cert1.mail-west.com\/c7rmhUyuH\/myuzjanm\/hUgt\/7e8jlrut71\/1bisx\/3hUgis&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1588976083824000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGmI8voqDhqkPy7Ji9OXlXNjLexGA\">Resilience Roadmap<\/a>\u00a0stages that California is using to guide its gradual reopening process are:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Stage 1: Safety and Preparedness<\/li>\n<li>Stage 2: Lower-Risk Workplaces<\/li>\n<li>Stage 3: Higher-Risk Workplaces<\/li>\n<li>Stage 4: End of Stay at Home Order<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>When modifications are advanced and the state\u2019s<a href=\"http:\/\/cert1.mail-west.com\/rm0Iy0V\/Igtmyuzjanmc7\/0\/7e8jlrut71\/1bisx\/40Iczj\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/cert1.mail-west.com\/rm0Iy0V\/Igtmyuzjanmc7\/0\/7e8jlrut71\/1bisx\/40Iczj&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1588976083824000&amp;usg=AFQjCNH42WRrrN2XDIm5yafNJVbl3fciPw\">\u00a0six indicators<\/a>\u00a0show we\u2019ve made enough progress, we can move to the next stage of the roadmap. We are now moving into Stage 2, where some lower-risk workplaces can gradually open with adaptations. Stage 2 expansion will be phased in gradually. Some communities may move through Stage 2 faster if they are able to show greater progress, and counties that have met the readiness criteria and worked with the California Department of Public Health can open more workplaces as outlined in the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/cert1.mail-west.com\/DyaQ\/mc7rmn\/gtmyuzjan\/nD\/7e8jlrut71\/1bisx\/5nDrjt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/cert1.mail-west.com\/DyaQ\/mc7rmn\/gtmyuzjan\/nD\/7e8jlrut71\/1bisx\/5nDrjt&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1588976083824000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGYzRqSntE6c2NdD1dyJfom1cFfog\">County Variance Guidance<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Industry Guidance to reduce the risk<\/h2>\n<p>California will move into Stage 2 of modifying the state\u2019s stay at home order on May 8, 2020. The state\u2019s progress in achieving key\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/cert1.mail-west.com\/Gy8T\/rm8\/yuzjanmc7\/8Ggtm\/7e8jlrut71\/1bisx\/68Gwxs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/cert1.mail-west.com\/Gy8T\/rm8\/yuzjanmc7\/8Ggtm\/7e8jlrut71\/1bisx\/68Gwxs&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1588976083824000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEJKoMzGwczE4qBab1t7NzN99oLPg\"><b>public health metrics<\/b><\/a>\u00a0will allow a gradual reopening of California\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The state recognizes the impact of economic hardship, but the risk of COVID-19 infection is still real for all Californians and continues to be fatal.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>That is why every business should take every step possible to reduce the risk of infection:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Plan and prepare for reopening<\/li>\n<li>Make radical changes within the workplace<\/li>\n<li>Adjust practices by employees and help educate customers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The state has outlined guidance\u00a0for each early Stage 2 business to follow. The goal is a safer environment for workers and customers. Businesses may use effective alternative or innovative methods to build upon the guidance.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Each business should review the guidance that is relevant to their workplace, prepare a plan based on the guidance for their industry, and put it into action.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>When complete, businesses can post the industry-specific checklist (below) in their workplace to show customers and employees that they\u2019ve reduced the risk and are open for business.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Before reopening, all facilities should:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Perform a detailed risk assessment and implement a site-specific protection plan<\/li>\n<li>Train employees on how to limit the spread of COVID-19, including how to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/cert1.mail-west.com\/c7rmjRywE\/jRgtmyuzjanm\/7e8jlrut71\/1bisx\/7jRiam\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/cert1.mail-west.com\/c7rmjRywE\/jRgtmyuzjanm\/7e8jlrut71\/1bisx\/7jRiam&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1588976083824000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFFGRaKc5cv1AFWosreL20eQODJAQ\">screen themselves for symptoms<\/a>\u00a0and stay home if they have them<\/li>\n<li>Implement individual control measures and screenings<\/li>\n<li>Implement disinfecting protocols<\/li>\n<li>Implement physical distancing guidance<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The state has also set up a mechanism to gather input on future industry guidance through the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/cert1.mail-west.com\/janmc7rmnYyaL\/myuz\/Ygt\/n\/7e8jlrut71\/1bisx\/8nYmwr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/cert1.mail-west.com\/janmc7rmnYyaL\/myuz\/Ygt\/n\/7e8jlrut71\/1bisx\/8nYmwr&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1588976083824000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEok7qFjnyTQV0nc1VEInXAqU4yiw\">California Recovery Roadmap survey<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>While many elements of the guidance are the same across industries \u2013 such as cleaning and physical distancing \u2013 consideration was given to industry-specific methods. For example:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Retailers should increase pickup and delivery service options and encourage physical distancing during pickup \u2013 like loading items directly into a customer\u2019s trunk or leaving items at their door.<\/li>\n<li>Retailers should install hands-free devices, if possible, including motion sensor lights, contactless payment systems, automatic soap and paper towel dispensers, and timecard systems.<\/li>\n<li>Manufacturing companies should close breakrooms, use barriers, or increase distance between tables\/chairs to separate workers and discourage congregating during breaks. Where possible, create outdoor break areas with shade covers and seating that ensures physical distancing.<\/li>\n<li>Warehouses should minimize transaction time between warehouse employees and transportation personnel.
