{"id":25287,"date":"2020-05-25T19:44:22","date_gmt":"2020-05-26T02:44:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=25287"},"modified":"2020-05-25T19:44:22","modified_gmt":"2020-05-26T02:44:22","slug":"protections-for-web-browsing-data","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=25287","title":{"rendered":"PROTECTIONS FOR WEB BROWSING DATA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The House this week will consider an amendment to legislation reauthorizing surveillance programs that would block law enforcement from being able to access web browsing data without a warrant.<\/p>\n<p>The amendment will be brought by Reps.\u00a0Zoe Lofgren\u00a0(D-Calif.) and\u00a0Warren Davidson\u00a0(R-Ohio), whose office confirmed Friday evening that a deal was struck with leadership to have the amendment considered. Politico first\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/click1.email.thehill.com\/ymlcypmrvssnwpwsnfkvvnccvmntsmszzgvrpbtcvmskl_gckcrrgygdcrmwkktwmn.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/click1.email.thehill.com\/ymlcypmrvssnwpwsnfkvvnccvmntsmszzgvrpbtcvmskl_gckcrrgygdcrmwkktwmn.html&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1590533242412000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGz_AXFU12mV1dBUqppHvtvCdFAAA\">reported<\/a>\u00a0on the deal.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I\u2019m glad that we\u2019ll get to vote on this important measure to protect Americans\u2019 Third and Fourth Amendment rights,&#8221; Davidson said in a statement. &#8220;This reform \u2014 while just the tip of the iceberg \u2014 is a major step forward in protecting Americans\u2019 right to privacy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The amendment will closely mirror the one brought by Sens.\u00a0Steve Daines\u00a0(R-Mont.) and\u00a0Ron Wyden\u00a0(D-Ore.) during debate in the Senate on reauthorizing the USA Freedom Act.<\/p>\n<p>That effort fell just one vote short of the 60 vote threshold needed to pass.
