{"id":26010,"date":"2020-06-15T22:38:01","date_gmt":"2020-06-16T05:38:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=26010"},"modified":"2020-06-15T22:38:01","modified_gmt":"2020-06-16T05:38:01","slug":"election-security-alarms-go-off","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=26010","title":{"rendered":"ELECTION SECURITY ALARMS GO OFF"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Multiple lawmakers on Monday warned that without boosting mail-in voting and taking steps to shore up election security, chaos could ensue during the November presidential election.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf Congress and states don\u2019t act immediately, our country could face an electoral Chernobyl this fall,\u201d Sen.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/click1.email.thehill.com\/tpvjsdwfpllktdtlkbvppkjjpwkrlwlggcpfdmrpwpbpm_rrkcggnrnpcglrrgwgwl.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/click1.email.thehill.com\/tpvjsdwfpllktdtlkbvppkjjpwkrlwlggcpfdmrpwpbpm_rrkcggnrnpcglrrgwgwl.html&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1592371777411000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGhCBYMI55Drs0JSDL4FZOc6qsRCw\">Ron Wyden<\/a>\u00a0(D-Ore.), a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, wrote in a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/click1.email.thehill.com\/mpdsmzwgpccljzjcltnpplsspwlvcwckkdpgzbvpwptps_rrkcggnrnpcglrrgwgwl.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/click1.email.thehill.com\/mpdsmzwgpccljzjcltnpplsspwlvcwckkdpgzbvpwptps_rrkcggnrnpcglrrgwgwl.html&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1592371777411000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHc_roc0BJjYPvpUn79VqCZVs3AWA\">Medium post<\/a>\u00a0on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Wyden, who has been one of the key supporters in the Senate for increasing mail-in voting during the COVID-19 pandemic, pointed to chaos at the polls in Georgia&#8217;s primaries last week as an example of what could happen if officials fail to address coronavirus-related election challenges.<\/p>\n<p>Voters in certain Atlanta precincts\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/click1.email.thehill.com\/lhwqsfzphmmrlflmrdjhhrqqhzrcmzmyynhpfwchzhdhh_rrkcggnrnpcglrrgwgwl.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/click1.email.thehill.com\/lhwqsfzphmmrlflmrdjhhrqqhzrcmzmyynhpfwchzhdhh_rrkcggnrnpcglrrgwgwl.html&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1592371777411000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHwOrXoT1vOJ16K2TYPfnb0cCCW9g\">faced hours-long lines<\/a>\u00a0due to malfunctioning machines, fewer polling places and poll workers due to COVID-19 shutdowns, as well as confusion over mail-in ballots.
