{"id":27249,"date":"2020-08-02T13:53:20","date_gmt":"2020-08-02T20:53:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=27249"},"modified":"2020-08-02T13:53:20","modified_gmt":"2020-08-02T20:53:20","slug":"2020-citizens-redistricting-commission","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=27249","title":{"rendered":"2020 Citizens Redistricting Commission"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lavote.net\/imgs\/rrcc\/images\/2020CRC_image.jpg\" alt=\"County Redistricting Commission\" width=\"100%\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>The Citizens Redistricting Commission<\/h2>\n<p class=\"fs\">In 2016, the California Legislature passed Senate Bill 958 requiring Los Angeles County to assemble the Citizens Redistricting Commission following the federal census.<\/p>\n<p class=\"fs\">Every 10 years the boundaries of Los Angeles County&#8217;s Supervisorial Districts shall be adjusted so that each district is reasonably equal in population, geographically contiguous, and the boundaries shall take into account the topography, geography, cohesiveness, contiguity, integrity, compactness of territory, and community of interest of the Supervisorial Districts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"fs\">The adjusting, or redrawing, of boundaries is designed to ensure that local legislatures are representative of the County&#8217;s population. How and where districts are drawn can shape a community\u2019s ability to elect the representative of their choice.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Who Can Serve on the Redistricting Commission<\/h2>\n<p class=\"fs\">Any L.A. County resident who is a registered voter and meets the eligibility criteria may submit an application. The last day to submit an application is\u00a0<strong>August 31, 2020<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><em>Applicants need to be geographically, socially and ethnically diverse<\/em><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Eligibility Requirements<\/h2>\n<p class=\"fs\">Applicants must meet all of the following requirements to be selected:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"fs\">\n<li class=\"fs\">Are a resident of Los Angeles County;<\/li>\n<li class=\"fs\">Have been continuously registered to vote in Los Angeles County for the past five years;<\/li>\n<li class=\"fs\">Have not changed your political party affiliation within the past five years;<\/li>\n<li class=\"fs\">Have voted in at least one of the last three statewide elections (e.g., June 2018, November 2018, March 2020);<\/li>\n<li class=\"fs\">Do not have any disqualifying conflicts of interest; and<\/li>\n<li class=\"fs\">Your family does not have any disqualifying conflicts of interest.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>How to Apply<\/h2>\n<h3>Online Application<\/h3>\n<p class=\"fs\"><strong>FIRST:<\/strong>\u00a0Fill out and submit your full name and contact information in the blue form below to request an online application.<\/p>\n<p class=\"fs\"><strong>SECOND:<\/strong>\u00a0After submitting your contact information, you will receive the link to the online application via email.
