{"id":27273,"date":"2020-08-03T17:06:14","date_gmt":"2020-08-04T00:06:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=27273"},"modified":"2020-08-03T17:06:14","modified_gmt":"2020-08-04T00:06:14","slug":"zoom-halts-china-sales","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=27273","title":{"rendered":"ZOOM HALTS CHINA SALES"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Zoom will stop selling new and upgraded products directly to customers in mainland China, the company announced on its Chinese website Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDear Customers, thank you for choosing our services,\u201d the website reads. \u201cWe wish to inform you that we will be selling services in Mainland China only through our partners.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The U.S.-founded company wrote that if its customers in mainland China need \u201conline video conferencing\u201d services, they can connect with Zoom\u2019s partners, which include Bizconf Communications, Suirui Zhumu Video Conference and Systec Umeet. It is unclear what sparked Zoom\u2019s decision.<\/p>\n<p>Zoom first informed customers in mainland China of the change on Monday, and it is scheduled to begin on Aug. 23, a Zoom spokesperson told The Hill in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur go-to-market model in Mainland China has included direct sales, online subscription, and sales through partners,\u201d the spokesperson said. \u201cWe are now shifting to a partner-only model with Zoom technology embedded in partner offerings, which will provide better local support to users in Mainland China.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUsers in Mainland China may continue to join Zoom meetings as participants,\u201d they added.<\/p>\n<p>A letter obtained by CNBC said the company stopped selling online subscriptions in mainland China two months ago.<\/p>\n<p>The Zoom-recommended third-party partners sell products while utilizing some of the company\u2019s technology. But products will not be available in mainland China directly from Zoom.<\/p>\n<p>The video-conferencing company has received scrutiny in the U.S. for its connections to China. Earlier this year, Zoom reported unintentionally routing some meetings through Chinese services.
