I want to start off by thanking all our firefighters and first responders in the 39th District and across California who are tirelessly battling wildfires in our state. They\u2019re working day and night to keep our communities safe, and I\u2019m incredibly grateful for their service. Please keep their safety in your thoughts and prayers.<\/p>\n

September marks National Suicide Prevention Month. I want you to know that you are not alone, and there are resources out there for you and your loved ones who may be in crisis.<\/p>\n

Call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255). The Lifeline provides 24\/7 free and confidential support. You can also text HOME to 741741 for the The Crisis Text Line. For more information and resources, visit\u00a0suicidepreventionlifeline.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I know that this is a serious issue in our country, especially as this pandemic has taken a huge toll on everyone\u2019s mental health. I\u2019ve been working with my Republican and Democratic colleagues to provide the support the American people need.<\/p>\n

Last month, I introduced a\u00a0bipartisan bill<\/a>\u00a0that provides tools and resources for our frontline healthcare workers to reduce and prevent suicide, burnout, and mental and behavioral health conditions. This past week, I spoke during the House Veterans\u2019 Affairs Committee on my\u00a0bipartisan bill<\/a>\u00a0to STOP Veteran Suicide and Substance Abuse Act. I know that there\u2019s more work that needs to be done, and I\u2019m committed to reaching across party lines, on this issue and every issue, to help the American people.<\/p>\n

Also, I wanted to share that recently Orange County\u00a0moved from the purple to red tier<\/a>\u00a0in the state\u2019s COVID-19 monitoring system\u2014opening up more parts of our community. While this is good news, we must remain vigilant and continue to follow the proper safety precautions. We cannot go backwards. Follow CDC guidelines, practice social distancing, wear a mask, and practice safe hygiene habits. Each and every one of us has a responsibility to slow the spread of the coronavirus.<\/p>\n
