{"id":27950,"date":"2020-09-14T16:52:02","date_gmt":"2020-09-14T23:52:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=27950"},"modified":"2020-09-14T16:52:02","modified_gmt":"2020-09-14T23:52:02","slug":"house-approves-security-legislation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=27950","title":{"rendered":"HOUSE APPROVES SECURITY LEGISLATION"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The House on Monday passed legislation to improve the security of federal internet-connected devices, with the bill garnering bipartisan support.<\/p>\n<p>The Internet of Things (IoT) Cybersecurity Improvement Act, passed unanimously by the House, would require all internet-connected devices purchased by the federal government \u2014 including computers, mobile devices, and other products with the ability to connect to the internet \u2014 to comply with minimum security recommendations issued by the National Institute of Standards and Technology.<\/p>\n<p>The legislation would also require private sector groups providing devices to the federal government to notify agencies if the internet-connected device has a vulnerability that could leave the government open to attacks.<\/p>\n<p>The bill is sponsored in the House by Reps.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/click1.email.thehill.com\/ettpjvdlqrrfcvcrftbqqfppqdfwrdrkkhqlvzwqqdrpd_mcscnnyqylcdwwcqytwc.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/click1.email.thehill.com\/ettpjvdlqrrfcvcrftbqqfppqdfwrdrkkhqlvzwqqdrpd_mcscnnyqylcdwwcqytwc.html&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1600209884830000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEJvxYDC2VRAelDmLWHwYmDfkALig\">Robin Kelly<\/a>\u00a0(D-Ill.),\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/click1.email.thehill.com\/wwgzktfqjddbhthdbwgjjbzzjfbmdfdyysjqtnmjjfdzd_mcscnnyqylcdwwcqytwc.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/click1.email.thehill.com\/wwgzktfqjddbhthdbwgjjbzzjfbmdfdyysjqtnmjjfdzd_mcscnnyqylcdwwcqytwc.html&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1600209884830000&amp;usg=AFQjCNF3uSweekpEfzGWHy_3ZI8tJAukyA\">Will Hurd<\/a>\u00a0(R-Texas), and over two dozen other bipartisan sponsors.<\/p>\n<p>The bill was approved by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee last year.
