The top Republican and Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee on Friday warned of Chinese national security threats due to Chinese government efforts to \u201cexert its global dominance.\u201d<\/p>\n

The joint statement from Acting Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman\u00a0Marco Rubio<\/a>\u00a0(R-Fla.) and Vice Chairman\u00a0Mark Warner<\/a>\u00a0(D-Va.) came a day after Director of National Intelligence (DNI)\u00a0John Ratcliffe<\/a>\u00a0penned an op-ed<\/a>\u00a0in The Wall Street Journal describing China as the \u201cgreatest threat\u201d to the U.S. since World War II.<\/p>\n

The senators’ remarks also came a day after House Intelligence Committee Chairman\u00a0Adam Schiff<\/a>\u00a0(D-Calif.) put out a similarly strong statement warning of Chinese threats.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe agree with DNI Ratcliffe that China poses the greatest national security threat to the United States,\u201d\u00a0Rubio and Warner said<\/a>. \u201cOur intelligence is clear: the Chinese Communist Party will stop at nothing to exert its global dominance. Beijing\u2019s infiltration of U.S. society has been deliberate and insidious as they use every instrument of influence available to accelerate their rise at America\u2019s expense.\u201d<\/p>\n

The committee leaders accused China of threatening U.S. \u201cdemocratic values\u201d through the Chinese Communist Party\u2019s alleged targeting of \u201cour free speech, politics, technology, economy, military, and even our drive to counter the COVID-19 pandemic.\u201d<\/p>\n
