China Post has issued a set of special zodiac stamps in celebration of the upcoming Chinese Lunar New Year, or the Year of the\u00a0Ox. The set made its debut at the Guangzhou Library on Tuesday morning (January 5th) and went on sale on the same day.<\/p>\n

Since 1980, China Post has issued special zodiac stamps every year. Deng Hong, Deputy Director General of the Information Office, People’s Government of Guangdong Province said at the launch ceremony, “After years of inheritance and integration, zodiac culture has become an indispensable part of Lingnan culture. As a uniquely expressive form of zodiac culture, the zodiac stamps convey the special meaning of people’s good wishes.” Deng also pointed out that in recent years, the Information Office of People’s Government of Guangdong Province has printed the stamp albums named “Beautiful Guangdong” and sent them to Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia, Europe and the United Nations. They are popular among local politicians and international friends and form part of our cultural exchanges, strongly confirming the saying that “We are not alone on the Great Way and the whole world is one family.”<\/p>\n

The special zodiac stamps were designed by Yao Zhonghua, who is also the designer of the first set of Ox year\u2019s special zodiac stamps. The Year of the Ox zodiac stamps feature two designs: one depicts a powerful ox moving forward, while the other shows a very affectionate picture that a cow is snuggling up to her calf.<\/p>\n

From January 5th to 10th, a stamp exhibition with the theme of the Year of the Ox is underway at the Guangzhou Library. Stamps, postcards and envelopes from all over the world related to ‘Oxen’ and excellent works of the 7th Zodiac Stamp Design Competition are being displayed.<\/p>\n
