Boone Comedy Writer\u2019s Scholarship, established last year by the network in honor of the late writer\/producer for diverse and aspiring comedy writers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"fmr-body\">\n<div class=\"field field-name-field-fmr-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden\">\n<div class=\"field-items\">\n<div class=\"field-item even\">\n<p>Created in 1990 in partnership with the Writers Guild of America West, Disney Creative Talent Development &amp; Inclusion\u2019s one-year writing program offers advanced professional development with the primary goal of helping to secure participants\u2019 first staffing assignment via Disney General Entertainment Content series. Now in its 30th year, the program is widely recognized as one of the entertainment industry\u2019s most successful of its type, with a nearly 100% hiring rate for more than a decade. Boone Comedy Writer Scholar<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cThe Creative Talent Development &amp; Inclusion team is proud to launch this extremely talented group of writers into the next phase of their career,\u201d said Tim McNeal, vice president, Creative Talent Development &amp; Inclusion (CTDI). \u201cThe flagship Writing Program is one of the critical ways CTDI connects creative talent to opportunities across Disney and continues to be our company\u2019s staffing pipeline specifically for emerging, diverse TV writers. We look forward to seeing this cohort shape the next generation of producers and showrunners.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The program has kickstarted the careers of many established and award-winning writers, producers and showrunners for hit shows including \u201cGrey\u2019s Anatomy,\u201d \u201cLittle Fires Everywhere,\u201d \u201cGodfather of Harlem,\u201d \u201cDave,\u201d \u201cPower,\u201d \u201cSnowfall\u201d and more. It also was the starting point for show creators and co-creators including Peter Saji (\u201cmixed-ish\u201d), Veena Sud (\u201cThe Killing,\u201d \u201cSeven Seconds\u201d), Jordan Cahan (\u201cBlack Monday\u201d), Reggie Bythewood (\u201cShots Fired\u201d) and Erica Montolfo-Bura (\u201cZoe Ever After\u201d); showrunners Dailyn Rodriguez (\u201cQueen of the South\u201d), Anthony Sparks (\u201cQueen Sugar\u201d), Ayanna Floyd Davis (\u201cThe Chi\u201d) and Aseem Batra (\u201cI Feel Bad\u201d); and alumni with production overall deals at DGE, including Saladin Patterson (\u201cDave\u201d) and Zahir McGhee (\u201cHarlem\u2019s Kitchen\u201d).<\/p>\n<p>The participating writers of the 2020 program secured staffing assignments on ABC shows \u201cThe Rookie,\u201d \u201cblack-ish,\u201d \u201cAmerican Housewife,\u201d \u201cThe Goldbergs,\u201d \u201cFor Life,\u201d \u201cStumptown,\u201d \u201cStation 19,\u201d \u201cCall Your Mother,\u201d \u201cA Million Little Things\u201d and \u201cHome Economics\u201d; Freeform\u2019s \u201cLove in the Time of Corona\u201d; and Disney Channel\u2019s \u201cRaven\u2019s Home\u201d and \u201cGabby Duran and the Unsittables.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0program was the first of its kind to provide salary and benefits to its participants. Starting this year, all program writers will receive a bump to their weekly salary prior to staffing on a series.
