{"id":31411,"date":"2021-02-04T17:41:04","date_gmt":"2021-02-05T01:41:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=31411"},"modified":"2021-02-04T17:41:04","modified_gmt":"2021-02-05T01:41:04","slug":"congressional-investigators-find-dangerously-high-levels-of-heavy-metals-in-some-baby-food","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=31411","title":{"rendered":"Congressional investigators find \u2018dangerously high\u2019 levels of heavy metals in some baby food\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A congressional investigation found \u201cdangerously high\u201d levels of heavy metals in some baby foods.<\/p>\n<p>A\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/click1.email.thehill.com\/eddpjvdlqrrfcvcrftbqqfppqdfwrdrkkhqlvzwrdqpsdy_qhfmggswstmfmwvhwdmh.html?a=&amp;b=36661\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/click1.email.thehill.com\/eddpjvdlqrrfcvcrftbqqfppqdfwrdrkkhqlvzwrdqpsdy_qhfmggswstmfmwvhwdmh.html?a%3D%26b%3D36661&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1612569448881000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFFOS78ZR_v4iVesQsHKK8PuaqKRQ\">staff report<\/a>\u00a0from the House Oversight and Reform Subcommittee on Economic and Consumer Policy released Thursday found that some internal company standards \u201cpermit dangerously high levels of toxic heavy metals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The panel said Nurture Inc., which sells baby food under the brand HappyBABY, Beech-Nut Nutrition Company, Hain Celestial and Gerber responded to its requests for internal documents and test results, noting that arsenic, lead and cadmium was present in baby foods made by all of the companies.<\/p>\n<p>The report also criticized the Trump administration for ignoring \u201ca secret industry presentation to federal regulators revealing increased risks of toxic heavy metals in baby foods.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Investigators found that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) received a secret slide presentation from Hain that said its corporate policy to test only ingredients and not final products under-represents the level of heavy metals in baby foods.
