Foley defeated a field of four candidates to become the first Democratic woman to ever be elected to the board and the first Democrat to represent District #2 in 127 years.<\/p>\n<p>In response to the election results, Foley released the following statement:<br \/>\n<em>\u201cI\u2019m humbled by the support we received tonight and grateful for the confidence voters have placed in me. The challenges we face are serious, but I know that they are no match for the strength and resiliency of Orange County\u2019s residents. There is much work to be done as it relates to speeding up the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine, helping local businesses recover, making county government more transparent, and protecting the things that make Orange County such a special place to live. Foley also served as Mayor in 2016-2017, and has served Costa Mesa as a City Councilmember or Mayor for 12 years. Previously, she served on the Newport Mesa Unified School District Board of Trustees for 4 years.<\/p>\n<p>As Mayor of Costa Mesa, Foley fought for and secured emergency financial assistance and loans for local small businesses struggling to keep their doors open during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her leadership helped many businesses, including South Coast Plaza, find creative ways to safely reopen.<\/p>\n<p>Foley is President of The Foley Group, PLC, which is located in Costa Mesa after 20 years in Newport Beach.
