Teachers and community educators from 32 countries gathered virtually March 18 for the U.S. Department of State\u2019s second in a series of international webinars on Holocaust\u202feducation.\u202fThe session, entitled \u201cTrans-Atlantic Dialogues II: Teaching the Holocaust in Challenging Times,\u201d was hosted by U.S. Special Envoy for Holocaust Issues Cherrie Daniels\u202fin cooperation with the\u202fUnited States Holocaust Memorial Museum\u202f(USHMM).<\/p>\n

The webinar showcased the practical realities and challenges experienced by educators teaching about the Holocaust, including\u202fconfronting Holocaust distortion and denial.\u202f\u202fFour experienced educators, two from the United States and two from Europe, led the\u202fpanel discussion and reported\u202fon the\u202ffindings of a March 11 workshop of educators from both sides of the Atlantic hosted by the USHMM.<\/p>\n

Panelists also included\u202fDr. Yehuda Bauer, Honorary Chairman of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance, and\u202fJennifer Ciardelli, Director of the Initiative on the Holocaust and Professional Leadership at\u202fUSHMM. Dr. Edna Friedberg, Senior Program Curator\u202fat the Museum,\u202fserved\u202fas the moderator.<\/p>\n

Educators and panelists examined how policy makers and practitioners \u2013 international diplomats, teachers, museum curators, educators, administrators and others \u2013 can work together to help future generations develop the critical thinking skills needed to teach and learn about the Holocaust in meaningful ways.<\/p>\n
