{"id":33891,"date":"2021-04-12T17:06:34","date_gmt":"2021-04-13T00:06:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=33891"},"modified":"2021-04-12T17:06:34","modified_gmt":"2021-04-13T00:06:34","slug":"cdc-director-calls-on-michigan-to-close-things-down-amid-surge-in-cases","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=33891","title":{"rendered":"CDC director calls on Michigan to &#8216;close things down&#8217; amid surge in cases"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As Michigan\u2019s governor calls for more vaccine doses for her state, the Biden administration has a different response in mind: Close things down.<\/p>\n<p>CDC director Rochelle Walensky addressed the growing spread of COVID-19 in the Wolverine State by saying sending more vaccines to the state won\u2019t solve the problem, as immunizations take two to six weeks to affect coronavirus statistics.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CDC&#8217;s\u00a0take:<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cWhen you have an acute situation, an extraordinary number of cases like we have in Michigan, the answer is not necessarily to give vaccines \u2014 in fact we know the vaccine will have a delayed response,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The answer to that is to really close things down, to go back to our basics, to go back to where we were last spring, last summer &#8230; to flatten the curve, decrease contact with one another, to test to the extent we have available, to contact trace,\u201d she said during a White House COVID-19 response team briefing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gov. Whitmer&#8217;s take:<\/strong>\u00a0Michigan Gov.
