Countering health experts\u2019 recommendations, Spotify podcast host Joe Rogan said last week that \u201chealthy\u201d young people don\u2019t need to worry about getting the COVID-19 vaccine.<\/p>\n
On his show \u201cThe Joe Rogan Experience,\u201d the\u00a0most popular podcast host in the world urged people to get vaccinated only \u201cif you\u2019re vulnerable,\u201d saying he thinks \u201cfor the most part it\u2019s safe.\u201d But Rogan said if a 21-year-old asks him if they should get the vaccine, \u201cI\u2019ll go, \u2018No.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAre you healthy?\u201d he said in his April 23 podcast. \u201cAre you a healthy person? Like, look, don’t do anything stupid, but you should take care of yourself. You should \u2013 if you’re a healthy person, and you’re exercising all the time, and you’re young, and you\u2019re eating well, like, I don’t think you need to worry about this.\u201d<\/p>\n
Rogan\u2019s advice is not based on science. It directly contradicts health experts, who have called on all people above age 16 to get the vaccine to curb the spread of the virus across the U.S., especially among vulnerable populations.\u00a0Unvaccinated people can also put others at risk by spreading the disease.<\/p>\n
His remarks come as the U.S. faces a tipping point in its vaccination effort between enthusiastic Americans who have already gotten\u00a0inoculated versus those who are more hesitant, or don\u2019t have access to the shot.<\/p>\n
