15 New Deaths and 285 New Confirmed Cases of COVID-19 in Los Angeles County<\/em><\/h3>\n

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (Public Health) has confirmed 15 new deaths and 285 new cases of COVID-19.\u00a0Of the 15 new deaths reported today, eight people that passed away were over the age of 80, four people who died were between the ages of 65 and 79, one person who died was between the ages of 50 and 64, and one person who died was between the ages of 30 and 49.\u00a0One death was reported by the City of Long Beach.<\/p>\n

\n

To date, Public Health identified 1,244,917 positive cases of COVID-19 across all areas of L.A. County and a total of 24,390 deaths. There are 263 people with COVID-19 currently hospitalized and 16% of these people are in the ICU. Testing results are available for over 6,809,000 individuals with 17% of people testing positive. Today’s daily test positivity rate is 0.4%.<\/p>\n

\n

The County continues to offer vaccines at many different sites across the county to make it as easy as possible for eligible L.A. County residents to get vaccinated.\u00a0This week there are 765 sites offering vaccinations including pharmacies, clinics, community sites, and hospitals. Many of the vaccination sites are concentrated in areas with the least health-affirming resources, which have been hard hit by the pandemic. Currently, County residents can obtain vaccines at the eight county-run sites, all the L.A. city-run sites, almost all mobile sites, and many of the community sites without an appointment. Many sites are open on weekends and have evening hours.<\/p>\n

Everyone 18 and older coming to get their first vaccine or who brings a first-time vaccine recipient with them to their second dose appointment at County-run vaccination sites, L.A. city and St. John\u2019s Well Child and Family Center sites, will have an opportunity to win a pair of season tickets to the 2021-2022 home season of either the LA Football Club soccer team or the LA Dodgers. Official rules and participating site locations will be posted on the Los Angeles County Vaccination Sweepstakes page online this Friday.<\/p>\n

One of the County\u2019s primary strategies for improving access to vaccines is deploying additional mobile vaccination teams that take vaccines into neighborhoods to reach people who may have limited ability or time to get to one of the established vaccination sites. This week, mobile teams offered vaccines at 188 sites, which are concentrated in higher-need, harder hit areas. Mobile vaccine teams are working with employers and community organizations to provide vaccines at convenient locations where residents and workers gather.<\/p>\n

This week, mobile vaccination teams were at the Antelope Valley Swap Meet and the Lancaster Flea Market; at the Palmdale Metrolink Station and at the Del Amo Metro Station in Compton; and at dozens of worksites, markets, schools, churches, senior centers, and other gathering places all over the county.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cWith every death we report each day there is a grief and sorrow for the family and friends who must now cope with the loss of a loved one; to those we send our deepest condolences and wish you healing. These deaths are even more tragic because they are occurring among primarily unvaccinated individuals who didn\u2019t have the additional protection offered by the vaccines,\u201d said Barbara Ferrer, PhD, MPH, MEd, Director of Public Health. \u201cAs we prepare for the full reopening of the County on June 15, the most important action step each person 12 years and older can take is to get vaccinated. Study after study show the vaccines are safe and very effective at preventing infection, serious illness and death from COVID-19. If you haven\u2019t yet been vaccinated, this is a good weekend to do so; vaccines are available at County-run sites without an appointment and they are always free. The more people who are vaccinated, the lower the number of hospitalizations and deaths; it would be great to get to 0 daily deaths from COVID.\u201d<\/p>\n
