{"id":36560,"date":"2021-06-17T15:15:04","date_gmt":"2021-06-17T22:15:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=36560"},"modified":"2021-06-17T18:15:24","modified_gmt":"2021-06-18T01:15:24","slug":"democratic-senators-press-phrma-over-covid-19-lobbying-efforts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=36560","title":{"rendered":"Democratic senators press PhRMA over COVID-19 lobbying efforts\u00a0\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Democratic senators are pressing the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) to provide more information about its lobbying efforts amid the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>In a letter to PhRMA CEO Stephen Ubl, Sens.\u00a0Elizabeth Warren\u00a0(D-Mass.),\u00a0Bernie Sanders\u00a0(I-Vt.),\u00a0Sheldon Whitehouse\u00a0(D-R.I.) and\u00a0Tammy Baldwin\u00a0(D-Wis.) asked the trade group and its member companies to disclose their lobbying spending to oppose a measure to waive intellectual property projections on COVID-19 vaccines.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile taking credit for the development of new COVID vaccines \u2013 which were developed with massive infusions of federal funds &#8211; the pharmaceutical industry has not backed off of its efforts to block drug pricing proposals and maintain the status quo,\u201d the lawmakers wrote in a letter sent Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Drugmakers have renewed clout in Washington after successfully manufacturing lifesaving COVID-19 vaccines.
