There was then a potluck of food and appearances by musical act,\u00a0<strong>Banded Future<\/strong>, who distributed beverages, sunglasses and other giveaways.<\/p>\n<p>Attendees then heard about a dozen different speakers crossing ethnic and partisan lines, including\u00a0<strong>Jojo Afable<\/strong>\u00a0from\u00a0<strong>Sheriff Alex Villanueva<\/strong>&#8216;s Community Advisory Council, encouraging people to get involved in neighborhood and ethnic committees, serving as community watch to keep neighborhoods safe.<\/p>\n<p><strong>John McKinney<\/strong>\u00a0(right) from \u201cProportional Justice.com\u201d asserted that public safety depended on having, \u201cSafe homes, safe schools, and safe neighborhoods,\u201d and added that \u201cletting dangerous people back into Black and Brown neighborhoods do not make the neighborhoods safe places.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bishop Mendez<\/strong>\u00a0(left) from Churches in Action went further to affirm the commitment of the churches in his organization to work to collect signatures for the recall of Gascon who he described as being, \u201cVery harmful to the community\u201d and going on to say that, \u201ceverything he is doing is against the community, this man does not stand for what is righteous, he stands for what is evil and wicked.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Recall Gascon Now Co-chair\u00a0<strong>Marc Ang<\/strong>\u00a0reflected that this event displayed, &#8220;Groups coming together to support real solutions for the African American community, and to work towards Martin Luther King Jr&#8217;s dream of true opportunity for African Americans, which has not been manifested in the inner cities who deal with day to day danger such as gang and property crime.&#8221; Other co-chair\u00a0<strong>Harriette Reid\u00a0<\/strong>reflected on priorities, and while celebrating Juneteenth, questioned the uplifting of criminals like George Floyd and urged her fellow black brothers and sisters to uplift positive role models instead.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ci4.googleusercontent.com\/proxy\/LjJ7y4svK4ng8CP5qlXM-jo755B-CiCQuMHSIBeffS-N1Lb5kD1mefi8JvUwIRdU3Zje1Mi3UfY-o10sEf-zInvIugnAmnIfrIC7S7ycMApO16NhIAzDQDKaDRaiCctSH7CgzwDOjemGgSq6RLNmNOg_gHcaXg=s0-d-e1-ft#https:\/\/mcusercontent.com\/a6e8a4711968d1772469b8127\/images\/d20c9bff-b688-f15b-ac22-d1392ab715e9.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nFrom left to right Bishop Mendez, John McKinney,\u00a0Karen\u00a0Roseberry, Marc Ang<\/p>\n<p>Most powerfully, mothers and other family members of children killed by gang violence, spoke on\u00a0reasons to recall Gascon\u00a0from not doing the job of the District Attorney to prosecute crime, to not receiving justice for crimes committed against loved ones, to the grave threat to public safety that Gascon\u2019s perilous policies pose, especially to persons of color in the communities where Gascon directives release criminals back into their neighborhoods.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ci5.googleusercontent.com\/proxy\/IyiE0LPcmVe_fYYBJ_0v3JsaIphnCuOJ1sC1-yf8xlEiK4fGPcxvX30f9l2hoEtYCYYUrFOb9sYEkVqa5on2hg8LHAu-bHbOKBR23zGzhZl6w7CaJQjlUy0qB0yen5sDHYDFG_Eihmr8j2blK1bSafqprSPj1w=s0-d-e1-ft#https:\/\/mcusercontent.com\/a6e8a4711968d1772469b8127\/images\/ed996d5f-da1e-1cd8-7354-db0f779ee33f.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Recall supporters have until October 27<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0to collect the 580,000 qualified signatures necessary to place Gascon\u2019s recall on to the ballot and in the first month since the petition has been approved have already collected tens of thousands of signatures. Beginning in early July\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/gmail.us20.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=a6e8a4711968d1772469b8127&amp;id=44805a4124&amp;e=0bc8e75e7f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/gmail.us20.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3Da6e8a4711968d1772469b8127%26id%3D44805a4124%26e%3D0bc8e75e7f&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1624299501146000&amp;usg=AFQjCNF2hRZ0uw5hefnFA7WG50Y9eZDINQ\">Recall Gascon Now<\/a><\/em>\u00a0will start targeted door to door signature gathering beginning in cities whose city councils have voted \u201cNo Confidence\u201d in Gascon.
