{"id":37237,"date":"2021-07-01T18:37:53","date_gmt":"2021-07-02T01:37:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=37237"},"modified":"2021-07-01T18:37:53","modified_gmt":"2021-07-02T01:37:53","slug":"kagan-rips-conservative-colleagues-in-blistering-41-page-voting-rights-dissent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=37237","title":{"rendered":"Kagan rips conservative colleagues in blistering 41-page voting rights dissent"},"content":{"rendered":"<table border=\"0\" width=\"100%\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td align=\"left\"><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td align=\"left\">Justice\u00a0Elena Kagan\u00a0ripped her conservative colleagues on the Supreme Court Thursday in a blistering 41-page dissent, accusing them of ignoring the legislative intent of the 1965 Voting Rights Act as well as the high court\u2019s own precedents.<\/p>\n<p>Kagan\u2019s fiery dissenting opinion in a voting rights case, which was joined by the two other liberal members of the court, Justices\u00a0Stephen Breyer\u00a0and\u00a0Sonia Sotomayor, accused her conservative colleagues of undermining Section 2 of the landmark Voting Rights Act and tragically weakening what she called \u201ca statute that stands as a monument to America\u2019s greatness.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNever has a statute done more to advance the nation\u2019s highest ideals. And few laws are more vital in the current moment.
