California will align with this guidance by implementing the multiple mitigation strategies of continued mask guidance and robust testing capacity, while not recommending physical distancing due to the obstacles it would present to California schools\u2019 full reopening.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/urldefense.com\/v3\/__https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/community\/schools-childcare\/k-12-guidance.html__;!!AvL6XA!m4EGF9SAzEL_SouTA5YUwrzb6lZU4eBo2Z3wJe0hqaZxsZ4cJ02QtFdNtiEjVAwKWApaI4YxTw$\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/urldefense.com\/v3\/__https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/community\/schools-childcare\/k-12-guidance.html__;!!AvL6XA!m4EGF9SAzEL_SouTA5YUwrzb6lZU4eBo2Z3wJe0hqaZxsZ4cJ02QtFdNtiEjVAwKWApaI4YxTw$&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1626054410036000&amp;usg=AFQjCNH5_wrm7oUyIZ4T7eb4fA9lgILWCw\">today\u2019s CDC guidance<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWhen it is not possible to maintain a physical distance of at least 3 feet, such as when schools cannot fully re-open while maintaining these distances, it is especially important to layer multiple other prevention strategies, such as indoor masking.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In accordance with CDC\u2019s guidance, and due to the fact that many of California\u2019s school facilities can\u2019t accommodate physical distancing, California will layer multiple other prevention strategies, including:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li><strong>Continued masking guidance:<\/strong>\u00a0California will continue to require that masks be worn indoors in school settings, which also will ensure that all kids are treated the same.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Robust testing program:<\/strong>\u00a0Every California school has access to free testing through the robust state testing program for schools.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe applaud the CDC\u2019s commitment to ensuring that schools are fully, safely opened for in-person instruction. Given California\u2019s science-based approach and the fact that the state\u2019s school facilities can\u2019t accommodate physical distancing, we will align with the CDC by implementing multiple layers of mitigation strategies, including continued masking and robust testing capacity,\u201d\u00a0said California Health &amp; Human Services Agency Secretary Dr. Mark Ghaly. \u201cMasking is a simple and effective intervention that does not interfere with offering full in-person instruction. At the outset of the new year, students should be able to walk into school without worrying about whether they will feel different or singled out for being vaccinated or unvaccinated \u2013 treating all kids the same will support a calm and supportive school environment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThere\u2019s no substitute for in-person instruction, and today\u2019s CDC guidance clearly reinforces that as a top priority, issuing recommendations for how schools throughout the country can get there. Here in California, we\u2019ll get there through continued masking and robust testing capacity,\u201d\u00a0said Dr. Tom\u00e1s Arag\u00f3n, Director of the California Department of Public Health and State Public Health Officer.\u00a0\u201cThe CDC issued a full commitment, with which California agrees, to full in-person instruction for students in the coming school year. CPDH is carefully reviewing the CDC guidance and plans to release state K-12 school guidance on Monday, July 12.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The guidance will build on multiple state initiatives to ensure schools are prepared to fully, safely reopen:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li><strong>Historic Budget Investments.<\/strong>\u00a0In March, Governor Newsom signed into law a\u00a0$6.6 billion investment in education to safely reopen schools and to address learning loss, especially for students most heavily impacted and school districts with concentrations of low-income and homeless students. According to the most recent data, essentially all schools in California are\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/urldefense.com\/v3\/__https:\/\/www.gov.ca.gov\/2021\/06\/07\/california-releases-new-summer-programming-and-school-reopening-data-launches-parental-engagement-campaign\/__;!!AvL6XA!m4EGF9SAzEL_SouTA5YUwrzb6lZU4eBo2Z3wJe0hqaZxsZ4cJ02QtFdNtiEjVAwKWApO0-0DdA$\"
