Blinken, Secretary of State<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change\u2019s\u00a0(IPCC)\u00a0newest\u00a0report\u00a0<wbr><\/wbr>makes\u00a0it\u00a0clear\u00a0\u2013 climate change\u00a0is already\u00a0a\u00a0crisis.<\/p>\n<p>Today, the United States joined\u00a0nearly 200\u00a0IPCC member governments\u00a0in approving the Working Group I contribution to the IPCC\u2019s Sixth Assessment Report. \u00a0This is the first volume in a series of four reports that the IPCC will release for the Sixth Assessment. \u00a0This report evaluates the physical science of climate change \u2013 looking at the past, present, and future climate\u00a0and revealing\u00a0how human-caused emissions are altering our planet and what that means for our collective future.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0report\u00a0highlights\u00a0that our climate is\u00a0rapidly changing due\u00a0to human influence and is already\u00a0altering our planet in\u00a0drastic\u00a0ways\u00a0<i>\u2013\u00a0<\/i>Arctic sea ice is at its lowest level\u00a0in\u00a0more than\u00a0150 years;\u00a0sea levels are rising faster than at any time in at least the last 3,000 years; and\u00a0glaciers are\u00a0declining\u00a0at\u00a0a rate\u00a0unprecedented\u00a0in at least 2,000 years.\u00a0\u00a0Weather and climate\u00a0events \u2013 such as\u00a0extreme heat,\u00a0heavy rainfall,\u00a0fire conditions,\u00a0and droughts\u00a0\u2013 are\u00a0becoming more severe and frequent because of climate change.\u00a0\u00a0We are seeing\u00a0the\u00a0detrimental\u00a0<wbr><\/wbr>impacts\u00a0of\u00a0these events\u00a0on\u00a0the lives and livelihoods of people around the world.<\/p>\n<p>Most\u00a0importantly, the report\u00a0finds\u00a0we are already edging closer to a 1.5\u00a0degrees\u00a0Celsius\u00a0warmer world,\u00a0and\u00a0every day emissions rise\u00a0the prospects for averting the worst impacts\u00a0of\u00a0climate change\u00a0become dimmer.\u00a0\u00a0This is why it is essential\u00a0that all countries\u00a0\u2013\u00a0in particular the major economies\u00a0\u2013\u00a0do their part\u00a0during this\u00a0critical decade of the 2020s\u00a0to put the world on a trajectory to\u00a0keep a 1.5 degrees Celsius limit\u00a0on warming within reach.\u00a0\u00a0This\u00a0is why\u00a0the United\u00a0States\u00a0has committed to\u00a0a\u00a050-52\u00a0percent\u00a0reduction\u00a0<wbr><\/wbr>in\u00a0emissions\u00a0from 2005\u00a0levels in\u00a02030\u00a0and is\u00a0marshaling\u00a0the entire federal government to tackle the climate crisis.\u00a0\u00a0We cannot\u00a0delay ambitious\u00a0climate\u00a0action any longer.<\/p>\n<p>As countries\u00a0prepare for\u00a0the\u00a026th\u00a0UN Climate\u00a0Change\u00a0Conference (COP26)\u00a0in\u00a0Glasgow,\u00a0this report\u00a0is a stark\u00a0reminder\u00a0that\u00a0we\u00a0must let science drive us to action.\u00a0\u00a0This moment requires world leaders, the private sector, and individuals\u00a0to\u00a0act\u00a0together\u00a0<wbr><\/wbr>with urgency\u00a0and do everything it takes\u00a0to protect our\u00a0planet and our\u00a0future\u00a0in this\u00a0decade and beyond.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>08\/09\/2021 08:03 AM EDT &nbsp; Antony&#46;&#46;&#46;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[7],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-38557","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-u-s-a"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/38557","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=38557"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/38557\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":38558,"href":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/38557\/revisions\/38558"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=38557"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=38557"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=38557"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
