{"id":38773,"date":"2021-08-13T19:01:44","date_gmt":"2021-08-14T02:01:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=38773"},"modified":"2021-08-14T15:54:42","modified_gmt":"2021-08-14T22:54:42","slug":"google-files-to-dismiss-ohio-lawsuit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=38773","title":{"rendered":"Google files to dismiss Ohio lawsuit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Google is seeking to dismiss a lawsuit brought by the Ohio attorney general seeking to declare the search giant a public utility, according to a motion filed Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Ohio Attorney General\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/click1.email.thehill.com\/fdqrtcqzyddwpcpdwbjyywrryqwldqdffnyzcgldsjggjn_tvvlvvhzhklczjjjpvvh.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/click1.email.thehill.com\/fdqrtcqzyddwpcpdwbjyywrryqwldqdffnyzcgldsjggjn_tvvlvvhzhklczjjjpvvh.html&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1629002643699000&amp;usg=AFQjCNH-Vhs9jyMNXDGC7I3LrReRukSi2w\">Dave Yost<\/a>\u00a0(R) filed the lawsuit in June, arguing the Silicon Valley giant has used its dominance to prioritize its own products in a way that \u201cintentionally disadvantages competitors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Google\u2019s lawyers argue in the motion that the search giant does not meet the state\u2019s requirements to be considered a common carrier.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOhio\u2019s Complaint mistakenly assumes Google Search is a common carrier or public utility because Ohioans choose to use Google Search. Under Ohio law, common carriers charge a fee to deliver a standardized service, and public utilities are regulated by a set of state regulations.
