Koch Industries\u2019 \u201cCreating Second Chances\u201d strategy to recruit and hire more individuals with criminal records is already making a positive impact,\u00a0KAKE News reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Of all the hires at Koch in the last quarter, one-third ended up having a record, talent solutions partner Monica Stopczynski said. Over that period,\u00a0Koch extended employment offers to roughly 1,400 individuals with a criminal background. It\u2019s part of the company\u2019s decades-long commitment to remove barriers to opportunity and help people improve their lives in the communities where its companies operate.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe look at the individual, the role that they’re applying for, what the offense is, and it’s a very individual approach,\u201d Monica said.<\/p>\n

Having a blanket policy of not hiring individuals just because they have a criminal record causes businesses to \u201cmiss out on the opportunity for a lot of talent,\u201d Monica noted.<\/p>\n

John Buckley, who heads up Koch\u2019s \u201cCreating Second Chances\u201d hiring strategy and works to share it with other companies beyond Koch, said companies making the hires immediately saw the impact from their new employees.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey see the quality of the employee who is extremely grateful,\u201d John said.<\/p>\n
