{"id":42120,"date":"2021-11-10T09:25:31","date_gmt":"2021-11-10T17:25:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=42120"},"modified":"2021-11-10T09:25:31","modified_gmt":"2021-11-10T17:25:31","slug":"public-designation-of-cambodian-officials-due-to-involvement-in-significant-corruption","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=42120","title":{"rendered":"Public Designation of Cambodian Officials Due to Involvement in Significant Corruption"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>11\/10\/2021 12:09 PM EST<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Ned Price, Department Spokesperson<\/p>\n<p>We\u00a0are announcing\u00a0today\u00a0the public designation of\u00a0Chau Phirun (Chau),\u00a0Director-General of the Defense Ministry\u2019s Material and Technical Services Department,\u00a0and Tea Vinh (Tea),\u00a0Royal Cambodian Navy\u00a0Commander, due\u00a0to\u00a0their involvement\u00a0in significant corruption.\u00a0 In\u202ftheir\u202fofficial capacities\u00a0as Director-General\u00a0of the Defense Ministry\u2019s Material and Technical Services Department and Royal Cambodian Navy Commander, respectively,\u00a0Chau and Tea\u00a0were involved in corrupt acts that undermined the rule\u202fof law and the\u00a0Cambodian\u00a0public\u2019s faith in their government\u00a0institutions\u202fand public processes, including by using their political influence\u202fand official power\u202ffor\u202fpersonal benefit.\u00a0\u00a0In 2020 and 2021, Chau conspired to profit from activities regarding the construction and updating of Ream Naval Base facilities.
